Artist Profile: Jim Wright

My work is an emotional response to the dramatic weather and sea conditions in the remote areas of Northern Britain, feeling the powerful forces of nature is particularly exhilarting and important to my work, so I choose places that have localised weather patterns such as the moors, mountains and coast, where the wind is often instrumental in altering the scene from one moment to the next. The quality of the light is the distinctive element in my landscapes, my work predominantly focuses towards the light source, this catches the brilliance of the light reflected off the land, and the diffusion of light through the atmosphere. I also feel strongly drawn to the sea, I love to watch the shape and form of the wave, the change of colour and the force of the movement of water. I often travel to the West Coast of Scotland, where there is a purity of light and some phenomenal weather.
I usually work with oils, applying thin layers gradually building up strength of colour, to create depth. My paintings are priced between £350 and £2500.
